Duskjar
EV-105Base form

Duskjar

Natural basis: nightjar + cryptic plumage

Role
ScoutHunter

Literally vanishes against the forest floor, catches insects in flight with its wide mouth and is active in the short windows between day and night.

Origin

Nesting right on the ground made motionless camouflage more important than active defense.

Appearance

A very low, broad brown-gray nightjar with a huge flat head, amber eyes, a separate wide cream lower jaw, thick wings and large bark-like chevron spots.

Duskjar — Front

Signature ability

Twilight Swoop

Leaps at the enemy with the lowest HP: 85 damage and Staggered for 1.5 s. A pair of Duskjars evolves into Sulfurwing.

Passive trait

Cryptic Stillness

If Duskjar ends its turn motionless on a natural surface, it gains Stealth without a separate Maneuver.

Moves

  • Bark Cloak

    Shade / Maneuver

Strengthens its camouflage on the ground or on a branch.

  • Twilight Swoop

    Signature move

    Gale / Strike

Snaps up a target with its wide mouth in a short flight.

  • Low Circling

    Gale / Maneuver

Quickly repositions close to the ground.

  • Dusk Window

    Shade / Support

For one cycle, boosts the Tempo of allies using Stealth.

Evolution

Line E-21: Bird of the Cave Dusk

Duskjar → Sulfurwing

Condition: nesting permanently deep inside volcanic caves.

Cryptic vision is no longer its main advantage. The species develops click-based echolocation, tolerance to sulfurous air and shorter wings for maneuvering close to the walls.
